Camera Operation for Netflix’s Outer Banks

Client: Netflix (Production Crew for Outer Banks)
Location: On-location – Various filming sites
Role: Camera Operator

Overview

I joined the production crew for the hit Netflix series Outer Banks, working as a camera operator to help capture the show’s signature cinematic look. The work required precision, adaptability, and a strong understanding of the production’s visual style, as we navigated complex setups both on location and in dynamic, fast-moving scenes.

Key Responsibilities

  • C-Camera Operation: Operated the Sony VENICE digital cinema camera system paired with high-end cinema lenses, capturing dramatic mid- and close-up shots in both handheld and fixed-mount configurations.

  • Collaborative Filmmaking: Worked closely with the Director of Photography, camera assistants, and grip/electric teams to execute shot lists efficiently.

  • On-Location Adaptability: Managed camera movement and framing in challenging environments, from tight spaces to outdoor sequences, ensuring smooth execution for both narrative and action scenes.

  • Technical Precision: Applied in-depth knowledge of lenses, camera rigs, and filtration to match the established visual tone of the series.

Outcome

My work contributed to the seamless visual storytelling of Outer Banks, helping bring high-energy sequences and intimate character moments to life. The experience deepened my ability to work at the intersection of creative vision and technical execution—skills I carry into all of my cinematography and camera work today.
